Scaling a European Data Hub for a Global Retailer

Case Study 1 - Appointing a Chief Data Officer to Lead Cultural and Strategic Change

Client: Global Retailer
Role: Chief Data Officer
Location: Europe-wide search

A global retail group engaged SG10 Solutions to identify a transformational Chief Data Officer—someone capable of not just delivering innovation but shifting an ingrained culture. We mapped the European market to uncover emerging leaders, ultimately surfacing a standout candidate who had flown under the radar but outperformed better-known peers during assessment.

Result:
The CDO was hired just three months from retention, and is now leading major cultural and data-driven change across the business.

Case Study 2 - Building Data Leadership in a Copenhagen-Based FinTech

Client: Danish FinTech (Series B)
Role: VP Data Science
Location: Copenhagen (with relocation option)

This fast-growing fintech was seeking its first VP of Data Science, ideally from a larger financial institution. SG10 guided the process by broadening the scope, presenting a diverse shortlist to help refine the client's thinking and align expectations with market realities.

Result:
The successful candidate was Head of Data at a Berlin-based fintech and agreed to relocate fully to Copenhagen. The process took three months from brief to signed offer.

Case Study 3 - Dual Leadership Hires for a Danish Enterprise Undergoing Data Transformation

Client: Established Danish Institution
Roles: Chief Data Officer & Head of AI
Location: Denmark + European scope

SG10 was retained to support a dual leadership transformation, hiring both a CDO and Head of AI. The client also sought to improve diversity at the executive level. We engaged the local and Nordic market, with a focus on diverse candidate slates.

Result:
We placed a locally based CDO and successfully relocated a GenAI specialist from Stockholm. For one role, SG10 presented an all-female final shortlist, directly supporting the client’s diversity goals.

Case Study 4 - Turning Around a Failed C-Suite Search for a Swedish Retailer

Client: Swedish Retailer

Role: Chief Technology & Product Officer

Location: Sweden (International scope)

After four months of internal and agency-led search yielded only three candidates, the client retained SG10 Solutions to take over the mandate. We quickly accessed the full VP-level bench from a key competitor, engaging top-tier talent both within and outside the local market.

Result:

From a shortlist of six, three of four final-round candidates were from SG10. The client made two hires—one for the original role and one for a newly created position. Both were international relocators, now embedded in the senior leadership team.

Case Study 5 - Scaling a European Data Hub for a Global Retailer

Client: Multinational Retailer
Mandate: Strategic Hiring Market Advisory
Location: Amsterdam & Madrid

SG10 was consulted by a client that had exhausted its local talent pool and was exploring European hiring markets. We partnered with senior people leaders to advise on talent availability, salary data, and relocation trends—ultimately influencing their decision to build new digital hubs in Amsterdam and Madrid.

Result:

Having already staffed 80% of their HQ data leadership, SG10 was then retained to build out their new hubs—staffing the entire Operations Research function (1 Head + 5 Team Leads), 2 Directors of Pricing Analytics, and 3 Directors of Business Analytics.
